What Type Of Filling You Should Put In Your Ant Farm

What Type Of Filling You Should Put In Your Ant Farm

When you have an ant farm, there are several questions that you must ask yourself. The first of these questions is what type of ant farm do you want to have? The next question you must ask yourself is how big you want your ant farm to be? Once you have discovered the answers to these questions, then you can move onto the most important question you can ask yourself about your new ant farm. What type of substance should I fill the ant farm with? This is a really important question, mainly because there are several different types of fillers you can put in your ant farm, all of them react differently with your ants, both in appearance and nutrition.

Perhaps the most popular form of ant farm filler is garden soil. The main reason for this is because the ants are used to garden soil, since that's where most of them came from. However, choosing to correct garden soil is extremely important. If you are using soil from your front yard, make sure that you have not sprayed any poison or weed killer onto the ground within the past several weeks. By giving ant's polluted soil, you will quickly find that their production of tunnels will quickly stop. However, using quality garden soil, rich with nutrients, your ants will be extremely happy and healthy, thus creating a massive tunnel system for you to enjoy.

Another type of soil that is very popular with ant farm owners is sand. Many people choose sand because it looks cleaner than going with soil. The light-tan color allows you to see the ants better than if you were to go with a darker soil. Another great reason why people use sand is the fact that the ants find it easier to create tunnels. Since sand is made up of really small rocks, the ants and maneuver these rocks into anywhere they want to go. Of course, with sand, there is little moisture, thus you will want to water your ants everyday by putting several drops of water on the surface of the ant farm. To make your ants really happy, put a drop or two of sugar water in the ant farm once or twice a week; this will give the ants a needed energy boost.

The first two type of substance for ant farms have both been used by ant farmers for generations, however, there is a new type of filler you can put in your ant farm that is truly unique. This type of filler is made of a gel-like substance. These gel ant farms have two great purposes. The first purpose is to provide your ants with all the nutrients they need, thus eliminating your need to water and feed them. Secondly, the tunnels that are built within the gel have a 3D look to them, and is unlike any other ant farm you have ever seen. If you are looking to have an ant farm, but you don't want to have to worry about feeing or watering your ants, than using gel instead of sand and soil is a great way to accomplish this want.
