In the light over protests against the real fur being proved used over supposedly faux fur coats by Sean John Clothing, sold at Macy's, the topic is acquiring considerable hot interest. As diverse as humans are, it also would be natural that both sides would have equally convincing grounds. The humane of acquiring raccoon dog fur versus the threat of diseases of a bursting raccoon dog population versus the environmental issue regarding the use of fur… the list goes on. But the hottest issue, it seems weren't about the use of real fur over fake ones. It is China's exploitation of raccoon dogs, which you might see over several resources over the internet. One on One with Raccoon Dogs

Raccoon dogs belong in the canidae family though their genetic relations to dogs, wolves and foxes are very minimal. They more resemble closely to raccoons, fur and all. They live the way raccoons live, and though omnivorous like dogs, their diet depended largely on the available food source, consisting of plants and seeds like berries, as well as small animals like lizards, frogs and even marine animals such as crustaceans. And due to their weak canine, they cannot eat larger prey. Very much like raccoons.

-which is unfortunate since they would share the fate as raccoons, beavers and badgers. They are hunted for fur. In Japan, they are hunted both for their meat and their fur. In a balanced ecosystem, this is perfectly normal, however. Humans, being a predator with several sets of need (not just meat), it is perfectly normal to hunt prey for their skin, just as hunting prey for meat.

And due to their very adaptable nature, with a wide range of diet, raccoon dogs have thrive in several regions well, that its bursting population was regarded by many as vermin, more obviously with the Chinese.

The recent Sean John issue came to light when an American animal protection organization has concluded that the fur hooded jackets sold by Sean John Clothing Company are composed of real fur, when originally it was advertised to use faux fur as lining. Says the president of the Humane Society of the United States Wayne Pacelle:

"These jackets were falsely advertised as fake fur, and then turned out that it was a real raccoon dog fur…"

To further aggravate matters, video clips and photos have been taken that show severely inhumane ways by which Chinese workers (from where the fur was being manufactured) peel away these furs on conscious but disabled specimens.

Macy's and Sean John Clothing, previously unaware of the nature of the product after the veil was raised, were hasty in pulling the coats off of the shelves and halting all production.
