Choosing the Best in Dog Names

One of the fun parts about getting a new dog is choosing which of the many dog names you would give it. With the many dog names out there, choosing the perfect one can become a tedious process. Still, any dog owner should weigh this out thoroughly. Of course, choosing dog names is not as critical as choosing names for babies. But, if you think about it, you will be calling your dog such a name for the rest of its life. Looking at it from this point of view, it would actually make more sense to pick out the best dog names for your options. So, when picking dog names, just keep this tips in mind.

First off, it would be better to pick short dog names. One or two syllables actually make better dog names, than those that have many. Longer names are harder to distinguish for dogs, so the shorter the name, the better. But just because the name is short does not mean that it should be boring as well. Pick an appealing short name, like Skip, for instance. Also, do not choose dog names that can be confused with certain commands. Noah, for instance, can be confused with the command, "No". As smart as dogs can be, this can be quite confusing still. Thus, it would be better to avoid such names altogether.

Of course, you should also consider the personality of your dog when choosing dog names. You should then spend a lot of time with your dog, to get to know him or her more. Your dog's personality, behavior, and appearance could come into play here. For instance, your has a spot over his right eye. You could then choose to call him Spot.

There are quite a number of popular dog names today. These include Sam, Max, Buddy, Daisy, Ginger, and Lucy. But you just might want to give your dog a unique name. Perhaps you want to name your dog after your favorite movie character, or after your favorite superhero. There are even some owners who choose to name their dogs after their favorite bands! Whatever your choice would be, just remember the concept of finality when it comes to dog names. Thus, you really need to be sure of the name you choose for your dog. Of course, you could very well change dog names whenever you want to. But this is also quite a hassle for your dog. Your dog would then have to switch from the two dog names, and this would take getting used to again. To avoid this, just be sure of the name you choose right from the start.
