Tropical Fish Stores

About Tropical Fish Stores

Any time you buy a pet, there are many things you need to think about. Obviously, you want to get the best pet you can get, as far as health is concerned. No one wants to get home only to find out that their pet has health problems because of how they were cared for at the store. Tropical fish stores are no different. Here are some things to look at when you are shopping for tropical fish.

Features To Look For

There are many things to look for when you are choosing tropical fish stores. If you have several choices in your area, you can probably narrow down your choices before you even enter the store. Begin by calling the tropical fish stores and asking some questions. Usually, you can get a good idea of how they operate by speaking to the personnel. It won't take long to realize whether or not they are knowledgeable about the business they are in. Another thing you can do is ask the storeowners for references. If they have nothing to hide, they will be more than willing to provide you with a list of satisfied customers. Even if they readily produce a list for you, make sure you actually call some of the people on it. They will probably be happy to share their experiences with you, whether they are good or bad.

This will probably narrow down your list of tropical fish stores to a few that you can go and visit for yourself. When you enter the store, the first impression will probably tell a lot about the place. You will immediately notice whether or not the place is clean. If the store itself is well kept, chances are they put the same care into their fish tanks.

The next thing you want to do is check out the condition of the tanks and the fish themselves. Make sure that the tanks are well maintained and the fish appear bright and healthy. You should become suspicious if tank after tank appears to be dirty and covered in algae growth. This would indicate that they are not cleaning the tanks very often.

The condition of the fish themselves will tell you more than anything else. If the fish are lively and brightly colored, chances are they are in good health. If the fish appear to be dark or pale, this could indicate a high level of stress or possibly disease. These fish should be avoided, because they will probably not live long once you get them home.

If you are comfortable with the condition and the staff at the tropical fish stores you have visited, you should feel good about purchasing your fish there.
