A Guide To Veterinary Ultrasound Equipment

Since early 80's, diagnosis of various disease processes in smaller animals is done using ultrasound scanning. Veterinary ultrasound equipment is now considered essential in any animal practices center. Ultrasound offers a painless and non-invasive method of diagnosis and staging of various diseases. It is quite effective in evaluating soft tissue and fluid filled organs. Ultrasound cannot be used to evaluate any abnormality if surrounded by gas, as ultrasound does not penetrate through air.

Benefits Of Veterinary Ultrasound Equipment

Veterinary ultrasound equipment allows the doctor to have a look at the internal architecture of various organs inside animal's body. Some organs cannot be easily seen on plain film radiographs, but ultrasound makes them easily visible. It is also possible to see the heart in motion using ultrasound examination, and this is known as echocardiography. Veterinary ultrasound equipment can be used to diagnose many malignant and benign diseases such as stones in kidneys, urinary bladder or gall bladder, gall bladder infection, presence of enlarged lymph nodes, free fluid in abdomen, pancreatitis, uterine infections, masses located behind eyeball, or urinary bladder wall tumors.

If the animal has history of vomiting, veterinary ultrasound equipment can be used to diagnose if the problem is in pancreas, liver or gall bladder. Ultrasound is best done on heart, as it is a fluid filled organ. Ultrasound can be used to diagnose the problems at early stages, hence increasing the chances of successful treatment.

There is also portable veterinary ultrasound equipment available for reliable and complete diagnosis in reproduction for small as well as large animals, and equipment comes with scanner body with linear probe, one charger, two external batteries, transport case, operation manual and gel for ultrasonography.

Veterinary ultrasound equipment can be expensive, hence many manufacturing companies and retailers offer fully reconditioned equipment and various financial packages to meet the needs of every physician. Most of the manufacturers offer attractive lease programs. Leasing can be quite beneficial as there is no huge cash outlay and available cash can be used to meet other needs. The equipments can also be replaced as and when required.

Leasing veterinary ultrasound equipment also preserves credit, as lease agreement is not loan. When any equipment is bought with borrowed money, liquidity is reduced and liabilities increase due to reduced borrowing capacity. For leasing, the payments can be made over longer term with low monthly payments. The equipment can be leased for 3 months or 3 years.

Decision to buy or rent the veterinary ultrasound equipment and veterinary dental equipment depends largely on the area of specialization, practice and usage. It is a big investment, and one needs to make sure that it will be able to payoff soon.
